Winemakers in the Adelaide Hills have been recognised for their diversity and ingenuity at the region’s annual Wine Show.
The top drops across 20 different categories were judged by 16 industry experts, with best producer and best cellar door also recognised.
Among the winners was Golding Wines, which received the Best Producer (fewer than 100 tonnes) award.
Minister for Trade and Investment Stephen Patterson welcomed the news, with the popular producer already taking its wines to the world.
“Golding is taking part in Wine Australia’s US Market Entry Program, which has been significantly subsidised by the Marshall Liberal Government,” Minister Patterson said.
“This means wine producers, like Golding, will receive real-world guidance on how to enter the US market, and navigate its complex system.
“Over the last four years, Wine Australia’s US Market Entry programs have been successful in helping 75 per cent of Australian wineries achieve first orders in the market worth a total value of $2.4 million,” he said.
The importance of education and training was also highlighted with the recipients of the Advanced Wine Assessment Course scholarship, Chris Parsons (Revenir) and Turon White (The Lane), recognised.
The scholarship aims to support and upskill those working within wineries affected by the 2019/20 bushfires and is part of a broader program, funded by the Marshall Liberal Government.
Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development David Basham said the funding has subsidised course fees, helping 107 people from across the region to access upskilling.
“This particular scholarship will give these wine experts the skills they need to participate in wine judging at an elite level,” Minister Basham said.
“It will help to cement South Australia’s status as the wine state, with the training to pay dividends in the coming years,” he said.
Those wanting to taste the Hill’s best Pinot Noir will also benefit from the refurbished Sidewood Estate Restaurant and Cellar Door, which received $246,000 through the South Australian Tourism Commission’s Tourism Industry Development Fund (TIDF).
Local Member for Heysen Josh Teague said the awards demonstrate the diversity of wine on offer in the Adelaide Hills.
“This festive season, why not challenge yourself to taste test every wine on the winners list?” Mr Teague said.
“With everything from a crisp Riesling, to a full-bodied Shiraz – the Adelaide Hills is world leading when it comes to quality and variety,” he said.
