We draw the attention of your Honourable House to the awarding of a contract by the State Government to Uniting Communities to operate a drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre with 5 Maturin Road, Glenelg being selected as the facility location.
SA Health’s specification for “Drug and Alcohol Residential Rehabilitation Bed Services” specifies that any proposed Rehabilitation Centre should “not be located near retail alcohol facilities”.
5 Maturin Road is short walking distance to Jetty Road, with its many retail alcohol facilities.
Additionally, the proposed facility would be 200m from the Maturin Road entrance to St Peter’s Woodlands Grammar School.
The only outdoor area of the facility proposed at this location is at the front of the property, alongside the footpath which many students utilise to walk to school, including students from nearby St Mary’s Memorial School and Glenelg Primary School.
